Anyone had there boot relase/latch fail

Tried to get into the boot this morning, lifted the boot release and it made a machine gun noise, tried various times but to avail, use my boot all day so was funny trying to get me work things from the rear cabin via the seats.
Anyhow called out BMW assist, might as well as under warranty.

60 mins later a lovely chap arrived, got the boot open from inside and low and behold he had a new motor in his car, all fitted and working ok, he did say he has replaced quite a few of these over the past few months. He asked if I had any other issues with it, the only thing I mentioned of late is that there is a pause when you put your foot on the right pedal, 2 seconds later bonnet up engine cover removed and he undid a screw pulled of a sensor and pipe said here's your problem, it was coaked full of soot, some carb cleaner and brush all squeaky clean again, boy did it make a difference no lag no pause just instant boost.

He did say that it's a common fault but when you take it to get serviced they never check it, and it's something I can do as it only takes seconds.

Very impressed with this chaps knowledge.

Wow, great technician!

I wish I had his e-mail to ask him a few things about my squeaky brakes and other annoying stuff...

Think it's something to do with the airflow meter, will try and take a few pics to show, but it's lot action was. if you were standing at the front of the engine bay, take the plastic big cover off, to the top right hand side a hex screw with a small rubber pipe, this was the sensor.
