BMW Steering Wheel

Hello,
This is my first post on this forum and I was looking for an answer about steering wheel leathers, same specs on two cars but different.. (they were bought second hand)

The cars (116i F20 and X3 F25) both have S249A Multifunction f steering wheel S255A Sports leather steering wheel on the list of specs.

But the steering leather feel is completely different, on the X3 it feels like leather, on the 116i it feel like "plastic" - they obviously look the same (apart from the LIM button on the 116i)

Any ideas how they can be a difference?

The X3 has Leder Nevada/rotbraun (LUCZ)
The 116i has Leder Dakota/schwarz (LCSW)

Thanks for any clarification,
Starmir

BMW has gradually expanded its shared parts bin and standardised specification across several model over the years as a way of getting supply-side cost efficiencies, (ironically with the opposite reaction among drivers to what you feel - most high end model drivers occasionally find low rent plastics and parts available on base models much to their annoyance)

All I can think off is as your cars are used, chances are either that (1) at the time they were bought, the steering wheels between X3 and 1 series had different designs or material specifications (presumably the 1 series materials were built to a cost) even though both are multi function. OR (2) an aftermarket replacement or upgrade was fitted to one car. I think it may be the former

Yes both have S249A Multifunction steering wheel and S255A Sports leather steering wheel on their list of specs. These are option numbers on the options list and not actual build part numbers.
I see that the actual bin part numbers are different which would explain the differences you mention.
The good news is that it looks like the wheels are interchangeable so you could fit a X3 wheel to a 1er.
