Hi

I removed my ECU yesterday for a flash tune and want to share a few tips with you that could have saved me a LOT of time.

In general this is not difficult, just take your time.

Update!

No need to completely remove the manifold. The vacuum hose and this connector is a bitch to remove so much easier this way Second time removal - 25min!

(removed it to try and repair the burned TMAP trace - JB4 USB cable accident)

Can you explain how you removed the ECU without taking off the manifold?

Look at the last picture. That is enough space to remove the ECU.

hes basically saying, you SEPARATE the intake manifold FROM the cylinder head, basically REMOVING IT, but not ENTIRELY removed, as in , removing the last vacc hose & connector, AND COMPLETELY REMOVING IT FROM ENGINE BAY

Wow... why is the ECU in the engine bay? Doesn't it risk getting wet there? All previous cars I've owned (including an older BMW) had their ECU in under the dashboard or inside a kick panel.

Yes, it will get wet - that's how the German engineers designed it to be cooled
