There is a liability component as well. I couldn't care less about replacing my car...that's a small expense relative to medical and other liability.

As far as $4k a year for car insurance, for some people who ride sport bikes, that's the norm. Talk about the cost of coverage being out of whack with the actual value of the vehicle. And yes, I know it's all about the liability. But removing full coverage on sport bikes will typically knock down the premiums significantly which again makes me question if there are really that many guys running around on sport bikes trashing them with full coverage. But I don't hang around those types of crowds.
Agreed with you there. My 07 Z4M is significantly cheaper to insure than my 12 ducati 1199 s, despite being worth twice as much.

I think plenty of 18 year olds finance a liter bike that they can't afford, wreck it in 2 weeks and rack up some hospital bills, and basically create a losing scenario for the insurance company. That's got to be it.

Replacing ones own car is comp and collision, that has nothing to do with 100/300/100. Sounds like op doesn't understand what these numbers represent.

What is scary is a 911 was once 80k. Now a M4 tops that. It's like insurance hasn't kept pace. Heaven forbid a person has an accident with a rich person and has to declare bankruptcy

No, what is scary is how everyone seems to know how to game the system when insurance is involved. I remember when I was a volunteer EMT for my local rescue squad. We were dispatched out to an auto wreck. Show up on scene, simple two car crash. Yes there was some damage but nothing real serious.

When we were working the occupants of one vehicle, everyone in that car knew what to say and where to point for their pain. After we packaged up the occupants for transport, all us from the squad looked at each other and said these people are angling for a big pay out. And when you have ambulance chasers advertising every where with Chiropractors on their speed dial, you better be thoroughly insured.

That's what I was trying to tell him. Insurance isn't for your own shit...it's for the other person's BS claims, trauma, getting sued, etc.
