I was wondering about upping the rear tyre pressure and it's good to know that people think it helps a bit - will try it this weekend I think if I can find the time.

So, I'm not sure he is really a fan of Slayer or he's just wearing something he found trendy but doesn't know much about :-) Hope it's the former though! There has been some dumb celebrities like Beckham and Lohan wearing Exodus and Maiden shirts where I'm sure they don't a fucking clue what this is all about. Their stylist just told them to wear it suppose :-) |

Higher pressure will make the tyres more responsive, which is good for the handling. It will however reduce the surface contact area, and thus less grip. If you are running wider rear tyres than front tyres, that is pretty much a good thing, to take out the inherent understeer you get from the unbalanced wheel set.

Interesting that he recommends the 8speed auto. Has Harris' ever gone in depth about dual clutch vs the 8speed autos? In the video he calls the auto smoother, but is that all there is to it. I'd be interested in his thought about upshifts/downshifts and how the overall control compares between the two. I've read a lot of good things about the 8 speed autos, but if they're that good and that close to dual clutch well it kind of makes me want to go back to manual.
RWD seems to be the saving grace for the BMW. I was wondering if the CLS/a45 though awd might still feel/drive like a fwd car at times, but no mention of that. And interesting that he calls the 135i more torquey around town, doesnt result in the merc feeling laggy. From other threads, that was a concern about the mercs powerband. |

if you're going to put an M badge on it
would it kill them to add an LSD? I mean the 335is had an lsd no? otherwise what makes this M worthy? slightly lower suspension? different wheels?

The whole dash is outdated, no angles, no imagination. I don't like anything on that car, inside out. Too kitschy... |

Don't think the 335is had a LSD. I think BMW is still reserving that for actual M cars.

What a gentleman, his calmness during the reviews makes it very easy to appreciate his skills and talent! For that i rank him #2 (i dont know who Henry is, might have to check his reviews) Quote:
Back on topic: I like the M135i (but hate the headlight just as much), but i have to admit, the A45 is one crazy $*n of a &!%c# of a car! ..would buy..

It might be better then the last 1 series or even E36. However, E46 did not use cheap feeling hard plastic in the interior and is on higher level then even F30.

I rate Chris Harris, Steve Sutcliffe, and Carlos Lago roughly the same. They would be my #2. I enjoy Arthur St. Antoine’s Epic Drives a lot as well. |

Someone really needs to put the AMG against a well used, low mileage and stock 1M (there are plenty) with recorded data and on track impressions. Someone like a serious German or UK auto magazine, would be best if it includes a dyno session of both cars to see what exactly is different.
I bet they have similar power output in reality, 1M has much more torque and 1M would come on top both as driver preferance and lap times (this will also depend on type of track); but I have to say that I would be very surprised if a 1M can get very close to this AMG in terms of straightline acceleration. Maybe it could catch and pass the Merc around (1M's) third gear speeds though. Obviously the AMG is the more contemporary design with better versatility and easier to use or speed up but I would never believe that a 4wd AMG with a small engine big turbo mated to auto box configuration can deliver half the fun or thrills of 1M. Next M2, for its own sake, should keep its predecessor in mind as a benchmark to better or at least equal, not these marketing attacks from Mercedes or Audi. There are passionate people in M Division, I hope they will be given another chance to deliver something special with the M2 and not just an answer to this AMG or coming RS3.

I think that was (as usual) a very balanced review from Chris Harris. For the daily driving and occasional track day that I do, the Mlite suits me perfectly. It's too early to say, but it looks like I'd pay around $AUD20k more for the A45 than what I paid for the Mlite, and I don't perceive the additional value from these tests, or what I've read
