Chain or water
Hello,
I have a series 1 116d from 2012 (F20), trying to start in the morning by pressing start, I have the starter spinning in a vacuum (noise of electric motor). By passing ISTA I have a default 273c00 Camshaft sensor, signal, No sigal. I open the trunk and a bottle of water with the new quick-release closure was completely empty in the battery compartment. On some forum we talk about relaxed chain .. I don't think so Help please Thank you |

Sounds like an issue with the starter. It is supposed to engage with the flywheel. Sometimes it will work for a while longer if you just hit it with a hammer.

I tried but still the same.
Ista indicates AAC sensor no signal, the fault was not present on ista 1 week ago. I tested the sensor socket there is indeed 12V Thank you |

But if the starter is spinning without dragging the engine along, the ECU is not really involved. That is the starter not doing it's job.

Finally after investigation, the chain broke. I removed the camshaft sensor and while a friend was trying to start I looked through the sensor hole and it won't turn.
What I do not understand is why the day before everything was fine, no engine noise, it was only the next day when trying to restart the car that the problem occurred. So my question is, do you think my piston, camshaft, crankshaft is crooked? Anyone have a tip for doing the cylinder compression test but when stopped? Thank you |
