Finally put my 120d on a dyno.
Hi folks !
Today wasnt the best day for it but the guy had space for me so I went for it. The car was tunned like 2 months ago, works good but I wanted to know how much power I have Sadly I coudnt take better (and more pics) because I wasnt allow to be inside of it The result? 172 whp @3787rpm (its Xdrive) torque 358Nn@3000rpm also at the wheels Estimated is 233bhp (to the engine) and 440Nm . Weather conditions 13.6 celcius degrees, 1008mBra and 91% of humidity (so bad) Happy with the car, it would probably have better performance with less temperature and humidity It runs like a charm and the fuel consumption is pretty good : 5.6 litre/ 100km not sure if is around 49mpg (highway) and around 6.2l /100km (city) Graphs My car

From 233 hp in the engine to 172 hp at the wheels? That is more than 26 percent loss.
For reference, my previous car, an unmodified 116i, is specified to have 136 hp in the engine, and the dyno said 139 hp at the read hubs. That is a loss of minus 2 percent! :-) |

For example this 320d (same engine, same ECU, same dyno, but RWD) Got 103.7kw (139whp) stock and 126kw (169whp) after remap a 120d from factory have 184hp, so if you use that calculator it would give you 180hp. So thats means with that RWD you lose around 24% from crank to wheels . Anyways, what matters is what you have at the wheels

The dyno I used measured at the rear hubs, where the loss is somewhat lower than when rolling resistance is involved.
When you measure on the wheels, it is common to lose around 15 percent with FWD, 17 percent with RWD, and 20 percent with AWD. Less if you have a powerful engine. I would guess 18-20 percent loss with your car, making it 210-215 hp on the crank. |

I dont know from where did you take the numbers But like I said, it doesnt matters how much do you have on the crank but at the wheels

Since xDrive needs to be dyno'd AWD, you have drivetrain loss (normally 20-25% depending on dyno, vs 10-15% RWD) that's why you'll see much lower numbers on xdrive.
