Talking Picked up a Hellcat...

After being jerked around by several dealers, I finally found one. 2018 Black over red w/sunroof & Harman Kardon. The only 2 options I really cared about. Got it from Heritage Dodge in Maryland. They have an Octane Red still left so go get it!

I'd like to toss some Brass Monkey wheels on. I have to figure out what color exterior badges I want to go with. Plum Crazy, sublime or Go Mango? Maybe another color? I don't want it to look stupid w/the red calipers.

Yes, I'm going to remove the bumper guards. I told the dealer not to detail it as I will do it myself.

You should ceramic coat it while there are no paint defects

It's a car, there are paint defects. Still Iron X and correct before sealing.

While I don't care for the coupes, as a sedan, which is already going to be compromised because it's a sedan, the hellcat is pretty cool. To be able to haul around 4 adults and have that kind of power...

Drove a Camaro SS & could not get comfortable in the car no matter what I did. Also, GM's lease rates on the ZL1 are a joke. Hellcat cannot be beat for the $.

Are these engines broken-in from the factory?

I know Vettes are not, curious if Hellcats need the 1000 mile initial easy driving (which I can image must be hard).

Congrats by the way!

I'm of the old school where this is how you break shit in. Done it on all my new cars & never broke anything.

I haven't seen a modern car that is "broken in" when you get it, they all have break-in periods specified in the manual.

That said, I don't understand in this modern age why it can't be done at the factory when the engine is put together. I guess the biggest reason is it would cost a lot of gasoline.

I love the people who faithfully pamper their car during the break in period, agonizing about that RPM needle position and whether it crept up 10 RPM above the OEM recommendation like the thing is going to explode. They completely forget about the 15 people before them who test drove their baby, beat the piss out of it, and didn't buy it.

Congrats on the purchase. That thing must be an absolute beast to drive!

I always think about this, too. Still, it's probably good practice to go through the break-in period, just in case (even with the short abuse it may have seen prior to your delivery).

Break in is sensible. It’s not just the engine it’s the transmission and the differential(s) also. Every time I’ve ever changed a differential ratio to new gears the gear manufacturer recommends easy driving for 500 miles to break in and heat cycle the gears properly.

Of course I’m old school I buy cars and keep them so I do care about all this. With leased cars who really cares lol

Nice, I was wondering what you would end up with. Now my question is, doesn't the weight of the Charger bother you? I could not get over that when driving Challengers or Chargers. Especially curious to hear your response since you also had a C6 Vette in the past.

Insane lease deals on these are possible if you have a willing dealer. Hard to do here in SoCal though. Love the Chargers (I prefer the 4 door) and test drove a few SRT Chargers since the dealers won't let you drive the Hellcats.

I prefer the brass monkey wheels too or even the 392 Daytona wheels.

I came close to picking one up on a few occasions. Congrats!

It bothered me in the Challenger SRT 392 I drove. You really feel that weight from a roll. The Hellcat power takes care of that. I've got to get used to driving such a big car (size wise not weight).

Interestingly, 707hp solves most problems

Nice ride!

Such a sweet car, hope it doesn't get lost in the sea of base model, 30% interest rate versions like it would around here. Dodge has taken "sign and drive" to a whole new level with the Charger and Challenger.
