MPG
Hi guys, its been a few months I have had my 118d car, and I am not happy with the fuel its giving me. A full tank peaks at just 400 miles, that pretty less that what my 1.6 petrol astra gave.
my car is diesel, automatic, m sport. MPG is reading at 43 at this moment. I am doing motorway mileage so I was expecting a lot of mileage out the car. Any advice on what I can do? Thank you |

Well, I have a 118d also m sport but a manual, and tend to average 47 mpg, but I can do a full tank with 51 mpg. I'd say that unless you're doing a lot of freeway, 40 mpg is really good, since you have an automatic.
Plus, the car has a small tank, so its easy to understand the small range. |

My 2012 116D (the 116D/118D/120D were all the same 2L engine just tuned differently) was giving me an average 55MPG from a full tank on a mix of motorway / city driving. I tended to get 500-550 miles out the tank. Nowhere near the advertised 68MPG of course! Haha.
Well I commented in my M135i write up last year that range anxiety wasn't the reserve of the electric car driver... in that car I'm maybe averaging 24MPG per tank. I do see on the eco-drive analysis data screens that while on the motorway cruising at 70MPH the car averages 40MPG but obviously those figures are cancelled out elsewhere. I did empty a tank within 70 miles once...

I don't really pay much attention to mine but the dash says 28mpg on mine. This is mostly freeway driving at 105kph (about 65mph) (this is our speed limit ) and then normally sideways through the suburbs. Always in comfort mode, sometimes with DSC off. And normally on manual shifting.

My 2015 116i M Sport Plus gets at best;
- 52 mpg on the Motorway (no air con sticking at 50 mph) - 47 mpg on the Motorway (air con set to lowest, eco pro and 70 mph) - 34 mpg around town (eco pro and no air con) I've covered 13,000 miles from new. I'm not impressed with my figures either. I was promised 50 mpg around town but I'm more than happy hearing my new *whoosh* sound when I change gears and put my foot down |

To warm up, keep the windows clean (defrosting and removing condensation) and have some ventilation.
I did wonder too, presuming "AC" was "Air Conditioning" and it was but, according to the manual (page 116) it's the "climate" (I'd call "ventilation") not "Air Cooling" function (page 117). AFAIK, there's a foolproof precaution and air cooling wouldn't actually work if the ambient temperature is below 0 C, even if "engaged" with the button. |

For us in colder climates, it is very nice for keeping the car dry inside in the winter, and removing fog. It makes a huge difference.

Well my dealer said that since I couldn't find my engine in the 1 series body he said that it's the same engine used in the 3 series from that time so I found mpgs from WhatCar?.com and that's what they had up.

If I've got the right model (134 g/km, with 18" mixed wheels?), combined is 48.7 mpg. Urban is 38.2 mpg. Typical town driving is likely to be less than urban. |
