But I don't think he would sit out. He will go to camp on time and Niners will have to deal with paying him following next seasom. The roster will then take a definite hit. I see the window at one more year with the way this team sits now, at this strength. With NFL's hard cap, the team's talent will start to diminish. |

FWIW, I "like" Kaep" but I don't think he has what it takes to be a "winner." At least not yet and he's already squandered 2 "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunities in just 2 years. Who knows how many more chances like that will come up?
If he had helped the team win the SB last year and gotten to the SB this year, the Niners probably would have paid him the $18.2M w/o thinking BUT, since he didn't, I don't think he's worth that kind of $ and the Niners probably will play "chicken" w/him until they get it down to a more reasonable number (or at least I hope that's what they'll do). We'll see . . .

Im gonna be honest, Niners need a new QB. Defense is mediocre but still developing as the season progresses, Offense has sooooo much potential but coaching staff and QB are making all the mistakes to run it efficiently.
Not a Niner fan here but at best they will make the wildcard this yr (hopefully) Potential is there to grow but it will take lots of time for Kaep to become an elite QB Seattle is going to repeat this yr. GO Hawks! 12th man! |

Have they renamed the team the Santa Clara Forty Niners?
FWIW, I'm a lifelong SAN FRANCSCO Forty Niners fan -- all the way back to YA Tittle at Kezar Stadium -- and agree (in part) w/BigBoi above. I'm not sure what's "wrong" with Kap but the coaches have apparently tried to make him into a pocket quarterback, which he's NOT, and this has compromised the play making spontaneity which apparently was the main reason Harbaugh went w/him over Alex Smith in the 1st place. Given his performance this year to date, it seems like he just takes too long to assess coverages and to throw the ball to open receivers, which often leaves him w/no choice but to run BUT, by the time he figures that out, the defense has flushed him out of the pocket and/or sacked him. And, let's not talk about his poor clock management and his frequent and/or unnecessary time out calls. Not sure that Kap is the only reason why the offense has sputtered but to have to rely on 5 field goals (2 longer than 50 yards) to beat the Chiefs is pretty pathetic. Without Dawson, the Niners would have lost the game and, if the Chiefs didn't have 12 men on the field, the Chiefs might have had enough time to win the game in the end despite a possible 6th. I wouldn't call the defense "mediocre" but they clearly are NOT as effective as they have been in the past. The loss of Navarro Bowman and Aldon Smith and the inability to find anyone to fill their positions are at least one obvious reason for this. Given these circumstances, I don't think the Niners have any chance to beat Seattle or the Cards to win the division and, if they continue to play the way they have been playing, they will be "lucky" to secure a wildcard spot this year. The glory for winning and the responsibility for losing falls on the coach. So, perhaps this is the reason why there are rumors of player dissension and unhappiness w/Harbaugh. Winning will solve everything but I don't think that there will much more of that for the Niners this season unless something dramatic happens to improve both their offense and defense.

Let's put a tight lid on Omaha! I'm not too worried about the niners D with out Willis, bowman, Brock, Davis, Smith, upati. Week 7 will determine whether the niners fate n then it gets better with the return of bowman n smith!

With so many key defensive players out, their best strategy for this game might be to keep Peyton Manning on the sideline. That means the ground game and time of possession. Otherwise, they may need to go into shootout mode which is not something this team is really built to do.
