ZF 8AT - disable 1st gear
Hi
With all the slow paced traffic I find the slightly jerky and constant shifting from 1st to 2nd annoying. I sometimes manage to convince the automatics to stay in 2nd driving manually but only if I slowdown very gently I can avoid the shift to 1st. Does anyone else feel annoyed by this / have any driving tips? If I could chose myself I would never use 1st gear. Could this be an option for Burger Motorsports or one of the other tuners to add to their tunes? - Niels |

Just got back from Xiamen.... No jerky action in my friend's M135i auto, just recently drove at slow speed.
I wouldn't rely too much on tuning companies as they seem to be hitting walls. Epic Motorsport and Burger Tuning are rumored to released something recently, but it's probably gonna be dyno races anyways. I would see the dealer about what you're experiencing. |

I don't notice this problem, either. What mode do you use the gearbox in -- Comfort, or Sport...or maybe even EcoPro, if in slow, slow traffic? Compared to our Golf DSG, the ZF 8-AT is much, much smoother

If you are at a stop you can shift the car to 2nd gear and go from there.
That way you don't have to change to 2nd gear and can slow back down to first when needed. |

I know I am overly (extremely) sensitive about this so Ill try and let a friend drive the car + compare to a Z4 DCT...
I also know that this is kind of a lame request as I, most likely, is the only person in the world with this issue |

I got the same feeling on my 118i sport. The 1st gear is always too long (rev to almost 3000rpm before switching to 2nd gear), and the change is not quit smooth. It feels like the 1st gear is lack of power.
I test drive the less power 316i but didn't experience the same problem. It was smooth |
