1 series 1.6 petrol efficiency
Hi all new to forum but I have recently bought a 116i and love the car but find the economy quite disappointing. I drive carefully and in the eco mode but seem to only manage 350 miles on a full tank. I drive about 14 miles to work all motorway but cannot manage more than 35 mpg?

Try the 1er forums. There are a few 116i owners on the site and they can be found here: http://f20.1addicts.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=292

Hi bud,
My wife has the exact same car and the consumption on this car is just ridiculous. I get better consumption on my 328 than the 116

What's your average range per tank?

98Ron petrol used. I am now driving car in comfort mode as someone suggested that driving in eco mode reduces engines power therefore using more fuel when going uphill etc?? seems to be a little better now - what do you all think?

I have tried to test the difference in consumption between Eco Pro and Comfort, and found no significant difference.

Is the car new? Not yet running free and at its best. 14 miles is not a long trip from cold, to get to best fuel efficiency. Your motorway cruising speed could be a significant factor, even if driving carefully. HighlandPete |

I get around 650 per tank and didn't find a lot of difference between eco and comfort modes on fuel economy. The biggest difference was learning to use a light foot at the lights and trying to maintain a constant speed. First couple of tanks were closer to the 500 mark.

On my first full tank of 98 octane petrol with 6km on the ODO I drove 480 km's...
After 10.000 km's it was around 7,1L/100km. My average fuel consumption after 20.000km is 6,7l/100km or 42,16mpg. With 0% Eco Pro - 70% Comfort - 30% sport mode. |

My car has done only 600 KMs . I am getting around 780km per tank and average of 8.6L/100k which was told is normal for the new car.
For a while I used Eco pro mode but it is really restrictive and make the car feel sluggish . Comfort mode is great , smooth and I only have slightest increase in fuel usage. |

The car is a drivers car to be driven don't piss around in eco mode rubbish. Why buy this type of car if your not going to use it's performance. I get 7.1 and never use eco. Don't get so hung up on the cost of petrol the difference for a couple more ks per Lt is nothing.
