The responses in here are hilarious. Don't get your panties in a wad. This is a single dimensional test. This outcome didn't have anything to do with N54 vs N55. It had everything to do with the fact that the M135i has an auto transmission versus the 1M's manual. Drag racing a manual transmission car against an auto is really, really tough. You need a lot of seat time to get the launch right in a manual transmission car.

M###i - Marketed as competition for Audi's S cars M# (and one case of #M) - Marketed as competition for Audi's RS cars Making sweeping judgements about the 1M from this single, very skewed, test is ignorant at best. This is a race to 500 feet where one driver has a distinct advantage. The 1M has a far superior suspension setup and marginally more horsepower. This post shows that the M135i was a full 3 seconds slower around the Nurburgring than the 1M, which is a much better comparison for two sports cars. These cars were never intended as drag racers.

A win is a win. M is suppose to be the ultimate bmw I expect it to beat M135i in the ocean as well despite either can swim.

According to BMW and countless "respected" magazine tests a 1M posts identical times to 60 mph as a manual E9X M3. In fact, there are many which says 1M is fractionally faster than a manual M3 and fractionally slower than a DCT M3. According to BMW, 8 speed auto M135i has identical acceleration to 100 km/h with the 1M or manual M3. According to BMW, xdrive version of M135i is faster than both 1M and M3. In fact, any stock 1M or M3 or M135i can be quicker than the others depending on simple conditions like state of tires or just the driver. They are all great cars in their respective segments and they attract different people with different taste and preferances. Thanks to BMW we do have different high performance models to choose from. So, what do you know that neither BMW nor anybody else knows? Enlighten us please with your facts and knowledge. Or are you declared persona non grata (check a dictionary) from M3 forums and passing time around here? Because of threads like this that you started: http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=810829 That thread speaks for itself. If you are under 18 then excuse me, since you are forgiven in that case.

I don't see 0-60 times as a very good way to compare the performance of cars. Yes, the M135i xDrive might have the advantage of higher grip allowing it to accelerate to 60 mph quicker than the rwd, but what about the rest of the race on a track? Every time they brake before a corner, the xDrive has more weight that needs to be slowed down. That same weight also needs to be carried through the corner, and then up to speed again after the corner. The balance of the weight isn't ideal either compared to the rwd.
I'm not sure how much of an advantage there is with xDrive coming out of corners, but I'm just guessing the rwd would win a race that also has corners. But of course, this is before the M3 and the 1M joins the race. |
