M badge on a 125i
With m-sport pack in estoril blue. What do you guys think about adding one to the tailgate badge? Wannabe or a bit of style? Truthfully I'm hoping my 125i will get mistaken for an M135i often, most people with the budget to go 125i+m sport+toys will probably go M135i anyway, and for the uninformed its difficult to tell the difference. and as for fitting the m pack to a lesser model, here in South Africa its a Lot more expensive on those models, which becomes a little disproportional to the base price so I don't expect to see too many. So an m pack non m135i will probably be quite a rare sight!( hence the question will those in the know laugh it off as me trying to be a wannabe 135i, while the rest it means nothing to them)

My 125i with its spec costs the same as a base M135i actually, so if I cared THAT much I would have gone for the one that had the badge not the toys! |

When price is comparable, just go for the M135i. It will be a continuous experience of driving a real performance car. The 125i is also fast, but it will not leave such an omnipresent flair of power and torque. The 125i is a very good car, but the M135i is a very special one, even without the leather upholstery or big navigation.
For what the M badge concerns, I guess you have to put it on! Your point is valid... probably all of us partially also buy the car since it makes us look good, professional, sleek and well educated. I'am convinced this is an idea we have, since 90% out there doesn't have a clue about our cars. I have an M-steering wheel in my 520d because I like the feel of it. And although I have the 520d badge on it and only the 17inch std rims, people ask me whether this is a real M5 I'am driving! |

A full fat 125i looks pretty much identical. It's also still what I would call a rapid hatchback. It's just the problem is the M135i is what I would call an insanely, monstrously fast hatchback. Even the 125d is comically fast. |

My 125i M Sport was ordered with BMW performance and M brakes, it came with the M badge on the tail from the dealer. Have a look at the pics of mine that were posted

Don't get me wrong, I think the M135i is a spectacular car and I trust anybody fortunate enough to own one enjoys it thoroughly. But while I wouldn't want to go backwards in power and toys from the GTI, I seldom wish I had more power and could do greater speeds. Funny how as cars have become faster, so too has the enforcement of the speed limit become more persistent P.S. I LOVE the M steering wheel! I think the M sport 1 series looks great outside, but its the touches and finishes on the inside that sold me. The matching strip across the dash of blue, the fat steering wheel, the anthracite rooflining, flip I really CAN'T WAIT for my car!!!! |

if i'm being honest, the people who you think would mistake your 125i for a 135i are the people who will know the difference.
when i see m sport models with the M logo slapped on the back, it makes the car look cheap. it devalues it in my opinion. Be proud of what you have. It's a magnificent car, and people certainly will not sniff at it. Unless you put that badge on, IMHO |

People that think it is unworthy or see this as cheating are exactly the ones that think that badges are so important and serious. I tell you, it's only important to yourself since the ROW is ignorant for M or whatever badges. So best to be your own judge, it's your car that you paid a lot of money for after all. |

I was going to make an insightful (read condescending) comment about the obvious difference between the dual exhaust on the M135i and single outlet on other models until I caught a fleeting glance of a white M Sport yesterday and could not tell whether it was a M135i or a 116i. In short, do it and 99% of people won't have a clue

My take on this subject is
If you do have the badge on the back, the car has to have some 'M' DNA in it, and be capable of putting its tail lights in front of most who test it out. I think that the 125i M Sport and M 135i have that capability and do it affordably. De-badge or add, it is a personal thing. If it makes you feel better about your ride 'DO IT' |
