It's shootout time again at CAR and they've got their hands on some hot hatches. In this preview video, they pit the BMW M135i against the Focus ST, Golf GTI, 35 Astra OPC and Renaultsport Megane 265 RB7 in a 1/4 mile drag race.

No surprise here, the M135i destroys the rest of the field at 13.16, followed by the Megane at 14.28. Chris Harris comes in last, no doubt due to the car he was racing in

Check out the full shootout results and action in the January 2013 edition of CAR.

Can be such good companion as a second car to my 1M! Hmmm, Estoril Blue, 5 door, 8 speed auto, sunroof, EDC, (things that I couldn't and maybe shouldn't have with the 1M

) and if I am gonna take it some country with real winters maybe xdrive as well. Just a big happy family picture. Wife can use it with kids all around and when I get the wheel I wouldn't loose much fun to the M Coupe, sweet dreaming, in fact I am really getting there to make this happen

If anyone wonders (like me) what would 1M do among them;

according to,
fastest laps.com: 12.8
zero to sixty.com: 12.8
Auto Bild: 12.84 (detailed comparison test with E92 M3 Competition Pack with DCT, M3 did 12.7, they chose 1M at the end though!)
and Inside Line of Edmunds: 12.9

To be fair; slowest reviews were from Autocar and French Moniteur Automobile which both recorded 13.3. Sport Auto Supertest did not include data on this discipline. I am not even counting a drag race video between 1M and RS3 since they managed to get 13.6 from RS3 and 13.9 from 1M, quality speaks there!

Put stock size PSS on 1M like I and many others did already, and you could shave at least .2 or more from those numbers since it particularly and hugely improves the launch and acceleration at first 2 gears. A pro in a good day can try a 12.5.

By the way, I don't think it was a fair comparison with other cars, they are not at the same league with M135i. For instance, Golf was not even a R.

Obvious win for the M135i

In my opinion the only hot hatches that will put a fight for the BMW will be the AMG A-Class Mercedes and MAYBE the Ford Focus RS model...

I don't understand why USA didn't get this car

From what I see there are a lot of people who would buy one.

Many of us cannot stomach seeing cars that aren't sold here.. & the fact we only get pseudo BMW's here in North America. These posts are boarderline false advertisement.

Yes. Like all newer M cars and M Performance category cars released after 1M, I think started with F10 M5. In Europe you can opt to have run flats (free option in Germany) for the M135i...if you are borderline crazy!

Why wait for the M235i? Do what I did: bought a low mileage 2010 135i Msport coupe for 12 grand less than new, added a 4-pipe exhaust, carbon fiber rear spoiler and diffuser, & the Dinan Stage 2 engine map. Just need PSS tires when my runflats wear out, which could be soon with 376bhp/400 ft-lbs! Oh...almost forgot...& put an 'M' badge on the trunk lid in front of the '135i' numerals

You are right, not totally fair this comparison but it is also a hatch available in 3 or 5 doors, manual or auto and even rwd or awd and more interestingly it is not that much more expensive than some of those rivals. Since the Audi RS3 can not be bought new anymore, for the moment it is the undisputable king of the hatch world. I just would like to see a more purposeful review putting it against a STI hatch on a track.
