the fuel economy thread
What mpg or l/100km are we all getting then? Im averaging about 58.5 mpg (4.8 l/100km, 48.7 mpg US) for 50:50 motorway/urban driving in my 116d, which I am happy with.

I get 4,6 l/100km for country roads and 6,0 for urban traffic.
It's a 120d.

Averaging 50 mpg (5.65 l/100) + combined driving and I live in a hilly rural area! But I have seen up to 75 mpg (3.77 l/100) returns on steady flat motorway trips
![]() Additional note: The terrain you travel over has a major impact on fuel returns, hills totally ruin any decent mpg.... You could be down to 20 mpg (14.12 l/100) or less on minor gradients ![]()

Tight city traffic is 6,5 l/100km, but normal figure is 6,0. Even when pushing the car heavily it doesn't drink very much more! I am very pleased. Less consumption than my previous 71 hp Smart 1,0 ![]() Edit: Norwegian speed limits are low - Max 100km/h on the relatively few motorways. 80 km/h on country roads. Cruising the Autobahn in 180 would of course give other figures.....

superspeed I got pretty much the same figures as you with my 120d manual.
Here is an example-photo taken during my ~6000km eurotrip this summer, been driving 90% highway at 120-140km/h for 844km and ended up at 4.7l/100km as seen below. A couple of traffic-jams and roadworks like seen in the pic of course bring the avg-speed down.. : usually ended up around that consumption during the trip.. 90% highway @ 120-140km/h with a few stops and slow parts here and there through most countries was the most common driving-pattern. Except for germany of course where the consumption went up together with the speed (whenever it was allowed) =) was pretty good still I'd say... looking at current consumption with cruise-control @ 180km/h it was around 8.5l/100km. Flat out 230km/h was 16.0l/100km driving around back home mostly back and forth to work about 50/50 urban/highway I'm around 6.4l/100km. overall consumption since new (covered a bit over 10.000km so far) is 6.2l/100km if I remember correctly.. might have come down abit more even. At the beginning when the car was new it was more around 6.5-6.7 with the same driving pattern. |

116i Auto, after 12.900km the average consumption recorded in the BC is 8.8lt/100kms.
Depending on driving conditions, I usually get the following: - Highway driving with avg. speed of 130km/h (driving between 120-180km/h) I get from 7.5 to 8lt/100kms. - Highway driving, with speed between 90 to 130km/h, I get 6.5 to 7lt/h. I also saw 5.9lt/100km on a few trips, but I was driving in Eco Mode and with consumption in mind, so no harsh acceleration and pedal to the metal moments! - City driving. usually I am around 9lt/100km, but if there is traffic jam I have seen as high as 14lt/100km (it is when it takes 30mins to cover a distance of 5 kilometers). Note: I never use the Auto Start/Stop function.

Hearing your figures, I am very disappointed..
True, I drive 80% around town, in 4km trips (most with cold engine) on my way to work and back (so total of 8km a day) and the occasional spins around the block. With the additional 20% being highways at around 120kph. I get 8.7l/100km - and I am babying it !! Also, that is in ECO mode. Same pattern in Comfort gets me ~9.2l/100km... My driving pattern is almost car torture, but still, I was expecting it to be way better ![]() |

With my 116i the average consumption is 6,1l per 100k, only 3700k done so far. Mostly on comfort, but very much enjoying the sportmode from time to time
![]() We went to Austria in july, up in the mountains and through Germany (so speeds up to 190kmh, usually 140-150) and my average was only 6,2 (1600k trip). Very, very pleased with my figures! |

116i Auto. I have 13000km av cons 8.9lt/100km. I drive mostly 48km per day 50:50 in town and highway, mostly in eco pro mode. My record is 6.8lt/100km on trip of about 600km in eco pro mode. Compared to my old 116i i can say its 1,5 - 2lt less consumption!

Warm weather makes the engine adjust quicker to working temps. My fuel figures make sense, but I really was expecting it to perform better.. I wonder how much better it should get over time. D. |
