125i and 135i Auto boxes hold up production deliveries
The longer wait for my 125i M Sport is now clear.
I have it on good authority that the delays on the F20 and F21 are due to a shortage of auto boxes available at production. A Gearbox design change occurred to the Auto. This has delayed deliveries of them to BMW. This put a 12 day lag into production lines for any Auto. If you ordered a manual F20 or F21 you should be on schedule. |

I guess one reason also might be that the demand for auto exceeds the expectations. From what I see and hear there must be at least a 50% share. I doubt there is any other compact car with such a high share of auto boxes.

Your thread title mentions only 125i and 135i, your message mentions all auto boxes. I wonder, does the delay apply to the 116i as well? Just ordered a new F21 116i with auto box, I wonder what the delivery times on that one is. I'm on holiday and it's a lease car so I haven't been able to contact the dealer directly yet.

GOOD NEWS
I am informed today BMW are almost back to the production scheduled (production date +4 days now) on 125 and 135 Autos I might just get my 125i M closer to the original date now (shipping time to Aus could still a problem) |

Petrol demand caught dealers unawares.
UK delays have been due to huge demand for petrol models. You can get a diesel F20 within 4-6 weeks and some dealers even have stock cars on display. However no one anticipated the huge demand for the 116i which by far has the longest wait of 8-10 weeks. I have noticed that more F20s are being specked with the auto, satnav and vis pack than on the outgoing model which means greater profit margins for BMW, and weaker residuals in 3 years time for those with lighter specs. Time to spec your car carefully. Here are some suggestions: feel free to add comments in that thread. http://f20.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=721334 . |
