Try as I do - I still can't see past the uglyness. The e87 Msport was SO MUCH BETTER LOOKING!
Oh BMW, one major styling f$%k up in the last 8 years isn't bad! |

Hello there. New member here. I am getting the 116i F20 in a couple of weeks.
I was wondering why there isnt any 'f20 tuning' thread yet. Isnt anyone here curious about engine upgrades like cold air intake, exhaust, oil catch can, etc? Nice to meet you guys. |

Νο hardware upgrades yet....it takes time to be developed (it they ever will...not a big market for these cars), so be patient. But I would not expect much apart from an exhaust (maybe full from downpipes to back box) and maybe an intercooler.

What do you define as stage 1? Because, for me stage 1 is just an ECU (or tuning Box) reflash and maybe an exhaust. Definetely with these 2 modifications I doubt anyone will see more than 200bhp. For 240+ bhp I believe you will need a new Turbo (similar to the JCW one), Intercooler, downpipe and probably injectors.

I bet on cold air intake, downpipe, and remap, along with some other minor upgrades depending on the engine's needs, but pretty much nothing extraordinary like injectors or turbo you mention. As i see the OEM intercooler is in a respectable size too.

By showing a lowly 114i powered by a 4 cylinder as less powerful than the 3 cylinder it shows the new 3 cylinder as "better" than the outgoing 4 and with the CST being smaller and lighter it will be an all around better value and product. Sounds crazy but that is the reason. Not to be overshadowed in the EU is the idea that small displacement is king as it saves fuel and saves money in taxes and purchase price. Also not everyone is interested in the fastest mode of transport but something built well and comfortable. |

The 114i makes a lot of sense in countries like Norway. Because of tax on power output, it is about 4500 euros cheaper than a 116i. And with very low speed limits on our roads, it takes the same time from A to B with a 114i as with an M135i.
Besides, the 114i has a lot of tuning potential. I'm guessing that many of the owners will chip tune the car and not tell anyone. That way they can have the power of a 118i for 2/3rds of the cost. |

so a 335xi with 300HP is 0-60 in 4.8 seconds
but a M135 with 320HP which should weigh much less is 0-60 in 4.9 seconds does BMW just pull these numbers out of a hat? |

On high power cars, AWD is an advantage at a standing start. I guess the 335xi can get more power down in first gear. The gear ratios are also important. If second gear stops just short of your target speed, you get an extra gearing that takes time.

Will this ever be available in the US? The 5 door is so sexy
You'd think it'd compete with the A3 pretty well.

Also- that 1.6l block is the same as what BMW Motorsport works with for its S2000 FIA offerings (WTCC, WRC, etc.) it is capable of over 400hp with extensive tuning. This fall it will begin its transition out as the 3 cylinder N37 begins to enter the scene. |
