Fuel economics of F20
Hi everyone. Just wondering. How many km's does a full tank give you? How many l/km do you average?
Pls state your fuel type (95, 98), mode you run (eco pro, comfort, sport, sport +), mileage too. Full tank: 650km on a full tank (it was 800km on the first run...) Mode: ECO pro most of the time Fuel: 98 Mileage: slightly below 200kms so far. Averages 4.9l/100km when on the run. So far it reads an average of 12.2km/l (though its going down with more mileage). P.S: 1 gallon = 3.78541178 litres, 1 mile = 1.609344 kilometres. Let the numbers roll...

My new 118i Urban (took delivery on Saturday, I drove it down from upcountry here in South Africa to run it in, still need to post pictures!) has done 1500km so far. Stats for the run-in trip of 1400km:
Fuel: 95 Mode: Eco Pro Average attempted speed using limiter: 130km/h Average actual speed including stops: 113km/h Consumption: 6.1l/100km I did a 20km trip the other day cruising very lightly at 90km/h on the motorway for two thirds, with the rest over a hill with a few traffic light stops. Managed 5.6. This is at sea level here in Cape Town. |

Model: 120d
Mode: Comfort, most of the time. Fuel: Diesel Mileage: 2000km Most of my driving is on country roads with few stop-starts. Am averaging 5.6 l/100km so far. I'd estimate that I get about 4.5 when I'm being conservative and in eco-pro mode. |

Guys how much is your estimate
On a 95 fuel tank? >600km? Or less than that?

Model: 116i (Sport) Auto
Mode: EcoPro & Comfort most of the time Fuel: Gasoline 95 RON Mileage: 6.800kms Avg. Consumption up to know is 9lt/100kms (I have never reset it since I took delivery of the car). I always fill the tank and I get a reading between 600 - 650 kms as an estimated range and usually I do around 500kms before refuelling. In more details: Break-In journey of 750kms, all in Eco Pro mode, I have an avg. consumption of 6.3lt/100kms, speed was from 100 to 140 kph. Same journey on Comfort (after 1.000 kms) was average 6.7lt/100kms going and 7.5lt/100kms return (more spirited, speed up to 160kph). Daily commute is 40kms, 15 of them in A road and the rest within the city traffic. Avg. Consumption daily is from 8 to 11lt/100kms, depending on the traffic, always on Eco Pro mode. In general I am very pleased with the fuel economy of the car (especially since my precious car was a Z4 2.5si) and how frugal it is in relation to its performance.

On long-distance driving on the 116d as low 3.5 liters per 100 km. The car spent some more when it was new, but once km. counter showed 4000km lowered consumption.

What the idrive tells you about consumption is slightly optimistic I've noticed... I always reset the trip-meter when i fill up the tank. Then calculate the consumption next time I fill up the tank.
my 120d stats for the last tank: 6.6L/100km, the idrive said 6.2 (I reset the trip-computer aswell upon full tank) I've done about 3500km so far. Pretty mixed combo of highway and start/stop/city-driving. The over-all counter since new hovers around 6.4L/100km I drive in eco-pro when there are cars in the way and you just go with the flow, and as soon the road is free ahead I floor it on sport+ pretty much majority of the time is eco-pro mode. I don't think the diesel in sweden is the best if you want low consumption. 5% RME is mixed in the diesel on all gas-stations (good for the environment). It's mandatory for all gas-stations so real deisel can't be found. Any other countries got that? It's funny that bmw state in the manual clearly that you are NOT allowed to fill up the car with diesel that contains RME, that means if I were to follow bmws instruction, I'd had to go to another country everytime I were to re-fuel the car, unfortunately I can't =) I'd love to try the Vpower-diesel some countries have, to compare performance/consumption |

Hi. Does ur 1 series get very hot on the side panels the bonnet area.*
Also do you average close to 6.5l/100kms or to 9.* I have 11000 kms on mine and bought it as a demo model at 10000 and get on average about 8.9 with a combination of eco pro , comfort and sport driving I live on the coast. I have taken the car to the dealer and they have advised the heat and fuel economy is as normal however I cannot accept such a vast difference between the advertised and actual figures I am getting |

I have driven BMW diesel cars from Sweden to Italy for the last 15 years every summer and the difference in diesel quality in Sweden compared to Germany, Austria and Italy has all these years puzzled me. The difference in price is also substantial - 20% higher in Sweden compared to Germany for example....... /Kjell Last edited by fullkoll; 03-27-2012 at 12:40 PM.. |

In Germany, most (all?) diesel pumps have stickers on them - "can contain up to 7% biodiesel". I guess that's the same as RME?
I've never bothered filling up on the premium diesel - AFAIK it's just a con. Might be an interesting experiment, but who's to say you wouldn't drive differently if you knew it was a different fuel? |

But I think there are more differences, we have another classification on our diesel than most countries. If it at least was reasonably priced it would make sense... would indeed be interesting with som hard data/benchmarking with "normal diesel" (eu), Vpower diesel and sweden-diesel |

Me too. I am very happy with the fuel economy of this car. Saves $ since fuel prices are sky high down under now.

1.18i sportline @4500 kms
fuel : 95 My driving mode selection is about %50 Comfort; %30 Eco; %20 Sport Average speed is around 50-60 kph, pretty much a combined usage. And my average is 7-7,5 lt/100km. It is VERY dependent on Mode and Mood; EcoPro mode, law abiding citizen, Greenpeace member; 6,0-6,5 lt/100km Comfort mode, you do some high RPM occasionally but usually careful with pedals; 7-7,5 liters/100 km Sport Mode, "why are these idiots blockin' the Left Lane!?" attitude, to hell with global warming; 9 lt/100km |

This is pretty meaningless unless we unite and give the consumption in the same units - miles or km....... liters or gallons.....
jonaliew has already given us the the numbers to use when converting: P.S: 1 gallon = 3.78541178 litres, 1 mile = 1.609344 kilometres. Very noble of an Australian ;-) Living in Sweden I prefer liters/100 km ;-) But I suspect that those living in the UK see it differently as it seems.... Ok guys. Here's more specific math. To make it easier.
1 mile = 1.609344 kilometres. (That doesn't change) UK: 1 Imperial gallon (UK gallon) = 4.54609188 litres 1 mile per Imperial gallon = 0.354006044 kilometers per liter US: 1 gallon = 3.78541178 litres, 1 mile per gallon = 0.425143707 kilometers per liter

According to the above, have covered 750 miles so far at an average of 51mpg (imperial) which equates to 18.05 kilometres per litre. Tank range was 600 miles = 965 kilometres. (118d auto)
