I felt the same about them when I got the 120d, I'd had my last car since 2001 an e46 320dSE on standard pattern 45 15" rims with 195/55 pneumatic tyres. I had a jack, full tool kit and full sized alloy sat in the boot wheel well, lovely.
Then I had to trust in 18" wheels with runflats 245/40 and expected the ride to be shocking and to be fair it did seem firm but I have got used to it.
We are unlikely to ever see proper spare wheels again eventually no matter what we drive so you may want to give them a go at some point.
I'd still prefer proper spares and the more compliant ride of pneumatics but I'm also a realist lol.
