The Crown Vic will be discontinued in the next couple of years. As for chassis age, it was designed in 1979. It's called the Panther platform and is actually quite rugged. I still have one, albeit in an unusable condition.
Nice thing about the CV is that it took almost all of the same aftermarket parts as the Mustang GT. There were issues with the intake being on the opposite side from each other, but the fact that Mustang aftermarket parts were cheap meant you could buy what you needed for the GT and, if necessary, modify it for use on the CV.
