I’d say the best thing to do is tell the dealer you want to test drive a 116I, 116D and a 118D. Take the time you need to figure out which engine you want.
They should be happy to let you do that.
Maybe test the 118D first, then the 116D, that will make the power difference most noticeable. Then see if the 116I is a good enough compromise.
