I've done 5mm on stock lugs a bunch of times never had any trouble , 3mm you'll be fine.
That being said I ended up going with a stud kit later on to run spacers and not have to worry about changing lug size when running larger spacers on my e92, plus makes lining up the wheels way easier, always an option!
