Unimog = in German "
UNIversal-
MOtor-
Gerät". Gerät
being the German word for machine or device. Basically these little AWD trucks are the swiss knife, jack of all traits, APV on the roads of Europe. Many farmers love them for their multipurpose practicality. Since the early 1950's Unimog has been part of the Mercedes-Benz AG.
The
Unimog Museum is located near the
A5 and
A8 Autobahn intersection. In the heart of the Schwarzwald (or Black Forrest) area of Southern Germany. It is also quite close to Baden Baden and the Stuttgart area(45min away).
The museum is fairly new, only a few years old (~2006). And there are a lot of hands on things for little kids to play with. Even a lbig sand box outside of the museum for the kids to play in. The museum itself is kind of small. So you really won't need a lot of time to see everything. But it would be a nice place to stop for an hour or two - to look around. What was cool is the Museum runs an off road "test ride" area outside - for a few euros you can go on the ride of your life. On the Museum's little proving grounds outside.
The Museum also runs a small Cafe - for small snacks and drinks. In the summer months you can sit outside and enjoy the view of the trucks driving around the off road course.
Well... onto my pics!
