You might be right. My experiance is only from E92 to F30/F20.
My first F20 was an 118d Urban 2012, lots of options. After about 2 years I had enough, the tractor sound and it srsly felt like a bucket on 4 wheels. When you close the door it sounded like closing the door of a crap Nissan Micra or something.
Got my 116i M-sport 2014 and it feels like the quality is waaaay better. Petrol version is much quieter and smoother. Build quality feels better, no strange clanking noise when closing the door but it feels really solid. M-sport must have some extra isolation around the doors especially. I canīt say if it entirely due to M-sport or that they "fixed" some issues from the original 2012 model.
Or maybe because I am partial to the M-sport package, had it on two of my E92īs.
Next car will be an F30 m-sport, but that wont be for another 2-3 years. By that time there will hopefully be a facelift done. F30 should feel more luxurious than F20, but with same options both cars feel identical on the interior at least. Only more spacious.
