It is clutch based, with 30 percent lockup under power and 9 percent while coasting. In my experience, the clutches will however last quite a long time. Maybe even the lifetime of the car. It is however important to use oil with additives for that type of clutch.

The BMW Z3 M Coupe had a very similar differential setup.
