VINs are assigned before any actual building of a vehicle begins. Status 150 is "production started" but the actual construction of the car won't start for weeks after.
I have a special edition 1984 BMW R100RS of which only 250 were made. I found out this summer that a friend has the VIN right in front of mine though mine is officially listed as a February production bike and his is March. I said that meant mine was quicker from the start. He said his got more good stuff so it took at least a day longer to build. The good news is they are both in fine shape 40-years after they left Spandau.
