It is an increase in speed and air injection so that your catalyst heats up faster that occurs, according to anti-pollution standards.
So the only way to avoid the "BMW cold start" is to encode the DME.
It wouldn't be so bad if it only did it on an actual cold start, but it does it on every single start hot or cold AFAIK.
