I find the variable steering quite good on the large and heavy 6er. On the 1 series however I didn't get convinced on the test drive and I don't miss it at all!
I agree the steering was sharper on former BMWs, as was the chassis. Still it seems to be quite good compared to other cars, as we've learnt from the auto cross story of ovekvam. But I hope BMW don't go any further on that cotton covered path, just to please even more atypical BMW customers......
