There are some different parts in the engine itself (can't name or list them right now), and the 20d has a different turbocharger. Well and the 25d, its a twin turbo.. it has 2 different chargers.. and some different engineparts too. The 16d can easily do what the 18d does and whatever that is good for towards the 20d, but it can (most likely) not reach the 20d's limits. But even in the E87 the 16d was good for 180hp without hardwarechanges (software"upgrade" to 18d and then optimize), and its only slightly modified with newer generation stuff in the F20.
