It sure would be nice to see some teeth put into the penalties, especially for aggravated or repeated DUI. As it stands now, it is often a matter of how much you want to spend on a lawyer (or if you are wealthy enough to afford one) to juggle charges and knock it down to s/t less serious. The 'affluenza teen' made headlines, but I bet you could find a few of those cases in every county in the US. I feel like we take a complete pass on any real effective enforcement, probably d/t political or financial pressures - the cops sit outside the crack house to bust dealers, and they are turning medical care on its head to prevent overdoses, but they won't sit outside roadhouses at quitting time or figure out how to put drunk drivers on a real watch list.
