I complain about not seeing the top. I have that problem in the F20 when test driving. Noticed it first in the E87 1-series.
I also have it in the Mini. But not much of a problem, I have learned to live with it. I easily see where the RPM dial is pointing, but cannot see the top numbers. Driving speed which is the important thing I have in the center console and also in the middle of the RPM tach, so easy to see both. (I use the digital speed 80% of the time.)
I think F20 3-series are a better, but not perfect.
I like the driving position in the 1-series tough..

The 3er has a thinner steering wheel than the 1er M Sport so there is more visual space through it to see the dials.
I recently had a new 3er hire car in Cape Town. I an now even more happier that I bought the 1er. It is far superior in it drivability and I prefer the thicker wheel even if it obscures the dials a little. My theory is that when you are driving flat out you are not looking at your dials.
