Just turn it off, it is a pain
If you read the owners manual it 'notes' that the autotop/start could shorten the life expectantcy of the equipment used (Mainly, the Fly wheel and Starter motor).

When you consider that the F20's starter motor is more than 3x larger than the prevoius 1 series it could cost heaps to fix it out of warrantee.

Depending on how long you will keep the car, you could do the sums to see if the fuel saving are worth it. I suspect it was created as a way of lowering the emmissions ratings.

I have already requested my Dealer to reverse the switch mode in mine so that you push the button to enguage the stop/start system. That way it is permanantly off until you want to use it.

If you want it done, BMW offer a free service on all BMW to do this at present.
