It's a different 9:30 club since '84. It moved in '95 to a bigger venue in the U St corridor/Shaw area. It now hold about 1200 people and is pretty consistently rated as one of the top venues of it's type in the country by Rolling Stone.
I live only a few blocks away from it. Unfortunately, they play less and less of the shows I want to see there. Theses days I don't know most of the hipster bands that are booked there for shows.
