Just my personal experience, but I've found that the STI is a more "raw" and enjoyable car to drive, but as a daily it gets overly rough and annoying quickly. The GTI or Golf R both are a bit more refined and are much better suited to daily driver use. When you want to relax and just get to work, they are very comfortable and refined in how they drive; but when you want to push it and have some fun they are capable as well.
Don't really think you can go wrong with either choice, just depends on what your personal level of comfort is.
