Pretty much all the cars from the major luxury manufacturers (BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Lexus, Infinti, Porsche... etc) are pretty damn safe. You will have a very difficult time finding any significant safety advantage or disadvantage between cars in this class. Even the Euro test standards have gotten to the point where the difference between a 4 star rating and a 5 star rating is really difficult to measure.

Here's the thing; consumers in the premium car market have, with rare exception, the expectation that the cars they are buying have the latest safety innovations and be built to a standard that would allow them to perform well in crash tests. BMW and Mercedes have been safety innovators right alongside Volvo, they just choose to market their vehicles differently because- another secret- the only people who consider safety their number one purchasing priority are fucking loosers.
