It's size fools you but inside you have legroom on a par with a 5er.
Yes it is one of the first wave of FWD BMW's and that legroom is made possible by removing the transmission tunnel and the RWD drivetrain freeing up space for the interior.

Seems a UK publication have got an inside scoop on the looks of the BMW 1er Gran Turismo. Following in the footsteps of the 5er Gran Turismo and the 3er Gran Turismo. Although Progressive Activity Sedan/Coupe makes way for Compact Activity Tourer.

What you see here is how the car will look offering a mixture of 5dr hatch and Touring. Leg room in the rear is almost on par with the 5er Sedan. As previewed in the Front Wheel Drive report.

BMW 1er Gran Turismo and BMW 1er Family Activity Sport Tourer are purely answers to the much demanded compact BMW that must be spacious and flexible like an MPV Concept.
Although you are not getting a typical MPV come-van shape , you are getting something that effectively could rewrite the rules in what an MPV has to look like. Without sacrifice to flexibility. Given the importantance of three segments the UKL/CITY , Premium Compact and Premium Entry for growth.
BMW see the need to offer customers within these segments desirable products not the same old concept but with a BMW badge.

The small MPV segment which is a very high priority in European markets is expected to increase by about 65% by 2015.
