2012 BMW 1-series Hatchback (F20) testing in Spain - 6/30/10

It's been months since the F20 1-series has been spotted in testing, but here it is in the Sierra Nevada mountains of Spain, perhaps undergoing high altitude testing. No word yet on whether the F20 will make it to the North American market.

Not much is known about the next generation 1-series, but what is known is that BMW sees this car as a core vehicle to its lineup in the future. Potentially, this car would be as important to them as the 3-series and so similar coupe and sedan variants are on the table. Even a stretched wagon varient has been rumored at one point. With the current E82 1-series confirmed to be receiving an M1 Version, it seems a sure shot that the F20 will also see an M variant. Good times are certainly ahead for the 1-series lineup.

What is known so far about this car? Well, it has been alluded that this car will see a new front end design that will be unique compared to the rest of the cars in the BMW lineup as well as possibly using larger foglamps at the front similar to the Z2 sketches. There will likely also be LED headlights up front. Beyond that, what we can garner from these spypictures is that surprisingly, the general shape of the body and trunk will remain very similar to the current car.
