BMW sent me a confirmation email within 24 hours, and it said to contact your SA at the dealership. I finally was able to get ahold of my SA, and he told me that the retrofit is free so long as you're still within the warranty period. This makes sense to me - i'm sure they're offering the retrofit to avoid legal action since in theory a feature of the car won't work anymore during the warranty period.
I told him to order the part and set an appointment for retrofit (I will keep everyone posted once it is completed).
