It is as simple as this. We would all buy the BMW 1er, however this should be your wife's decision. She will feel comfortable in a Golf as it will feel the same as her current one and as it looks like all the other 10,000,000 Golfs out there, she will be happy with it.
Take your wife to the BMW dealer first take a car for a long test drive and then to the VW dealer. Let her make the decision.
