Yes, and in a very nice town. In reality, the builder's parents were probably from Friesland and he felt that pride you speak of.

My city has a great Dutch store that's owned and run by real live Dutch people . They're my key supply link for real aged gouda (hauda, not gooduh lol) and leiden, as well as all of the other dutch stuff from my childhood. I don't know how to spell any of it (I was a little kid) but kook, spekulaas, bitterbollen, croquettes, licorice, etc were staples in my house growing up.
