Making a good compromise between good comfort and sporty handling is what BMW does best. Every new generation of cars gets more comfortable, but maybe also faster with the same power. I guess they can seem less sporty, but the new cars perform very well in corners when they are pushed.
If you are only into the fun factor, older cars are usually better. Every generation since the E30 has become slightly more boring to drive.
